These past almost four months of isolation have taken their toll on all of us. However, isolation can also bring great benefit when we allow it to remind us of the truths of scripture that can inspire us in fresh ways. “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10) Your TBBA staff has been striving to hear from the Lord about what He wants us to be and do in the days, months, and years ahead. We certainly desire that churches in our region resemble what churches were like in the early church times.
In the early church it is stated that “Those (believers, not apostles) who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went” (Acts 8:4). It is no wonder that the world was turned upside down by the gospel message. One of the things our staff has concluded while in isolation is that we need to strive to inspire and equip pastors to mobilize a much greater percentage of believing church members to show and share the gospel with the almost 1.5 million people in our county who they live around, and work and play with. Everything else pales in comparison with this. This significant increase in evangelistic effort can only be started and sustained through earnest, ongoing prayer.
Getting to Know the Ministry of Bless Every Home
The Bless Every Home Neighborhood Prayer ministry is the best prayer ministry that we are aware of. And it’s free. If thousands of local Christ-followers will register at blesseveryhome.com and begin praying daily for their neighbors and others, then we are confident that the Holy Spirit will convict these believers to continue to pray but to also do much more than pray. Consistent prayer not only opens doors of influence for the Gospel’s sake but it also deeply changes the ones who pray. Praying neighbors will begin to care about and enjoy those they know and as a result do life with them through hospitality, home gatherings, etc. Then natural spiritual and gospel conversations will take place. Personal Experience
I first heard about Bless Every Home about 3 years ago. I signed up to participate in the ministry some time later and it has changed my view of my neighbors. I pray daily for five of my “adopted” 47 neighbor families and as a result I am caring about them, and reaching out to them to repeatedly show them the love of God and have spiritual and gospel conversations with them. I believe that in these days of isolation there is absolutely nothing better for a church to do than to lead their members to start praying every day for their neighbors, co-workers, relatives.
We believe in Bless Every Home so much, we developed a 14 minute tutorial to present an overview of the Web site and how the whole system works. We are not alone in believing that earnest prayer is essential for churches to experience a renewed zeal for evangelism. I recently had the privilege of talking with Steve Bradshaw, Director of Evangelism & Strategic Initiatives of the Southern Baptist Convention of Virginia. He and their State Executive Director, Dr. Brian Autry, are working to lead all the churches in their state to adopt the Bless Every Home strategy. At this time, about 30% of the SBC churches in Virginia have signed up to use this ministry. Jesus Films Free Jesus Films have been available for years for Lights to request so that they might give them to neighbors as gifts around Christmas or Easter. Currently the Jesus Films are no longer available by calling the phone number shown in my tutorial. However, you can still pick up boxes of 100 Jesus Films at the Tampa Bay Baptist Association offices.
